TRENTON, NJ - The Trenton Titans announced the signing of Brandon Smith today.

A former star at Miami (Ohio), Smith, 25 and a native of Pepper Pike, Ohio, can fill a spot at either forward or defenseman.

"I'm very excited to have Brandon,'' said Titans head coach Vince Williams. "He's a versatile player, one who can help us at two positions. He's got a big body (6-foot-1, 205 pounds) and plays hard.''

Smith made his mark at Miami during his junior and senior seasons, scoring eight goals and adding nine assists in 60 games with the RedHawks, recording a +8 rating for his 2009-10 senior campaign.

He got his first taste of professional action with the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the CHL last season, scoring 13 points (3 goals, 10 assists) in 55 games.

The Titans will play two preseason games, meeting Elmira at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 7 at Pro Skate in Monmouth Junction, and visiting Reading at the Sovereign Center at 4:05 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 9. The team makes its regular-season ECHL return at Elmira Oct. 14, with its 2011-12 home-opener vs. Florida Oct. 22.
