Titans Drop Second in a Row; Fall to Division Rival Reading, 4-2

Trenton, NJ - The Trenton Titans, proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, dropped its second game in a row - both at home - after a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Atlantic Division rival Reading last night before a post-Hurricane Sandy crowd of 2,352 at the Sun Nation Bank Center.

Adam Comrie caught the Titans' defense scrambling and ripped a screened blast past Niko Hovinen (1-1, 28 saves) into the top left corner at 14:06 of the first for a 1-0 Royals lead.

The Titans - who have not led nor won when giving up the first goal - tied things at 1-1 when Bryan Haczyk cleaned up a rebound in the crease on the power play for his second of the year nearly 13 minutes into the second.

Whatever momentum the Titans gained from that tally quickly disappeared when Denny Urban ripped his first of two goals on the night from the right point past Hovinen at 17:25 for a 2-1 Reading lead. Thing went from bad to worse after Alex Berry got loose on a break less than two minutes later. A diving Andrew Conboy got a stick on the puck, but Berry was able to muscle a backhand past Hovinen for a 3-1 advantage after two.

Urban's second goal at 12:02 of the third upped the Reading lead to 4-1. Stephen Schultz ended the scoring with a 5-on-3 marker for the Titans in the final four minutes.

Phillipp Grubauer notched his first win in four tries with a 28-save performance, raising the Royals' record to 2-5-0-1 (5 points). With the loss Trenton falls to 5-3 (10 points).

On a positive note, the Titans' power play - mired in a 4-for-36 slide - went 2-for-6 on the night. The Royals finished the night 0-for-8 and are just 4-for-44 on the man advantage for the season.

These two teams - which will see each other five consecutive times in the next nine days - play Game Two of this five-game set Saturday night, 7:05 pm at the Sovereign Center in Reading, PA.

Titans Help Hurricane Sandy Recovery Effort - Prior to the game, the Titans requested donations be brought to the SNBC to help aid those affected along the Jersey Shoreline by Sandy. With free tickets offered to those who brought a case of water, Titans Nation came through in spades to support its neighbors, as hundreds of cases of water, bags of clothes, food and toiletries were brought to the arena. Those donations will be taken on Saturday to be distributed by relief workers to victims of Hurricane Sandy.
