Titans Acquire Forward, Defenseman

The New Jersey Titans announce the acquisition of two new players including a forward and defenseman.

Forward Roberts Smits will be exchanged for a tendered contract with the Janesville Jets while defenseman William Riedel arrives from the Austin Bruins.

Smits' elligibility year is a '95 while Riedel's is a 96'.

Smits of Riga, Latvia, comes in with a wealth of NAHL experience, appearing in 73 games in addition to eight playoff games.

Last season he scored six goals and had eight assists for 14 points and a plus/minus rating of +7. He spilt time having played for the Amarillo Bulls for a short stint before arriving in Janesville last year.

So far this year, Smits has already accumulated 14 points with four goals and 10 assists.

Meanwhile, Riedel comes to the Titans having played in 28 games with two goals, seven assists for nine points and a +6 plus/minus rating. The left-handed Greensboro, N.C. native is in his first year in the NAHL.

Both acquisitions will likely see action in this weekend, which will have three games in four days against all three Eastern Division opponents. First, the Titans will travel to Revolution Ice Centre Friday night to take on the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights.

Saturday night, the Johnstown Tomahawks will be in town for Star Wars Night, scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop.

The weekend finale will then commence on Monday afternoon at 3 p.m. against the Aston Rebels.
