MONCTON N.B. - The Wildcats were on the road in Bathurst this afternoon as they geared up for their third game in three days. After an impressive two wins over Cape Breton and Rouyn-Noranda they were looking for a third today.
It was all Moncton in the early minutes of the game, Liam Murphy marked his 7th of the season on a breakaway goal at 2:40 of the first. Followed up by Cam Askew's 13th of the season to give the Wildcats some early momentum with a 2-0 lead midway through the first period. At 9:05 Bathurst was able to get on the board, courtesy of a power play goal by Rodrigo Abols; then Jeffrey Truchon-Viel added another for the home team to tie the game at 2-2 after the first 20 minutes.
In the second period Simon Le Coultre found the back of the net on the power play for his second of the season; with assists to Kelly Klima and Cam Askew. Bathurst would then add a pair of goals before the period was over, giving them a 4-3 lead after two.
Moncton would need to play catch up in the third, and with an early power play goal by the Titan, they were down by two. Manny Wiederer recorded his second shorthanded goal in two nights midway through the final frame, but it was not enough for the win tonight. The Wildcats would come up just short. losing this one 5-4.
Dom Tmej was in nets again tonight, his third night in a row for the Cats. putting on another solid performance facing 37 Bathurst shots.
The Wildcats are back at home on Friday vs. the Victoriaville Tigres at 7:00p.m. Then on Saturday Blainville is in town for puck drop at 4:00 p.m. for our Star Wars game and our season ticket holder skate with the Cats!
