Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
Fort Wayne, IN - Fort Wayne TinCaps OF Sawyer Carroll capped his sensational first half with a 4-for-4 performance at Tuesday's Midwest League All-Star Game to win the game's Star of Stars award. RHP Anthony Bass tossed a scoreless 2nd inning to grab the win and relievers Zach Herr and Brad Brach each had shutout appearances. INF James Darnell ripped an RBI double and walked.
The Eastern Division All-Stars never trailed in a 6-3 win. West Michigan INF Ronnie Bourquin's three-run home run was the big blow in a four-run 4th inning.
Brach entered the game with two out in the bottom of the 9th inning, allowed a double to Clinton's Terry Serrano and proceeded to strike out INF Brett Lawrie, one of the top prospects in the Milwaukee Brewers' organization, on three pitches.
The TinCaps, first-half Eastern Division champions, went 45-25, the best record for a half- season in franchise history.
They open the second half of the season at Parkview Field on Thursday at 7:05pm against the South Bend Silver Hawks (Class-A Arizona Diamondbacks). Fort Wayne RHP Simon Castro (4-4) is the projected starter opposite South Bend RHP Randy Rodriguez (1-4).
