FRIDAY NIGHT: The TinCaps lost their road trip opener against the Dragons, 9-4. The 'Caps tallied 10 hits, including 2 apiece from Blake Hunt, Michael Curry, and Luis Roman. Fort Wayne also drew 6 walks, including 2 drawn by Kelvin Melean. Xavier Edwards had a double (team's only XBH) and 2 RBIs.

ROSTER MOVE: Today the Padres reinstated Tucupita Marcano from Fort Wayne's Injured List. Marcano last played on May 26 @ Great Lakes. He's been sidelined by a sprained left thumb. Marcano's .304 batting average ranks 8th in the MWL. Noted for his ability to make contact, Marcano has swung and missed at only 5.1% of the pitches he's seen this season-4th lowest SwStr% in the league-and struck out in just 11.2% of his plate appearances-5th lowest K% in the circuit... Outfielder Dwanya Williams-Sutton has been placed on the Injured List (sprained left wrist).

WEATHERS REPORT: For MWL pitchers who've thrown 30+ innings, Weathers has the highest Ground Ball % (63%), 2nd lowest Fly Ball % (24%), 2nd best GB/FB (2.60), 2nd lowest xFIP (2.18), and 5th best BB/9 (1.36). Surprisingly though, Weathers has allowed 4 home runs in 33 innings, as 20% of fly balls against him have gone for homers-the 2nd highest HR/FB ratio in the league.

X IS A FACTOR: Infielder Xavier Edwards leads the MWL in batting average (.343), ranks 3rd in OBP (.399), and 6th in stolen bases (14). He has the lowest swinging strike % in the league, as he's swung and missed at only 3.6% of the pitches he's seen. His K% of 10.7% is the 4th lowest in the league. With 21 walks to 25 strikeouts, Edwards' 0.84 BB/K ratio is the 8th best in the MWL. Xavier has made a living on swinging early in the count: he's posted a BA of .545 this season on the first pitch of an at bat (best on the TinCaps), and 24 of his league-leading 71 hits (33%) have come while swinging in an 0-0 count.

HUNTING HITS: Over his last 11 games, catcher Blake Hunt has slashed .412/.459/.588 with 4 doubles, a triple, and 5 RBIs.

HOT CURRY: Michael Curry started his TinCaps career 2-for-22 (.091). But since May 26, in 12 games, Curry has slashed .343/.415/.486 (.900 OPS) with 5 doubles and 7 RBIs. Curry says his philosophy is "swing hard just in case you hit it."

RUIZ RIPS IT: Outfielder Agustin Ruiz ranks 7th in the MWL in Line Drive % (23%).

LOPEZ LOCKED IN: Since May 11, infielder Justin Lopez has led the team with an OPS of .810. In 25 games, Lopez, who turned 19 on May 9, has slashed .250/.321/.490 with 11 extra-base hits (4 doubles, 2 triples, 5 homers) and 18 RBIs.

TURNAROUND: Catcher Juan Fernandez began the season 0-for-18, but is 24-for-65 (.369) since.

IN CONTROL: TinCaps pitchers have the best ratio of strikeouts to walks in the MWL this season (2.98). 'Caps pitchers have also walked the fewest batters in the MWL, averaging only 3.1 per 9 innings.

AUSTIN POWERS: Right-handed reliever Austin Smith tossed a gem in relief on May 31 against Great Lakes, going 3.2 hitless and scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts and just 1 walk. He followed that with a perfect ninth inning in a save on Tuesday versus Lake County. The 2015 2nd round pick now has a 1.89 ERA in 10 relief outings this season (19.0 IP) with 20 strikeouts and 4 walks. Smith also owns a 0.79 WHIP.

ALL-STARS: The Midwest League announced the rosters for June 18's All-Star Game on Wednesday. The TinCaps will be represented by infielder Xavier Edwards, who will start at second base, plus starter Ryan Weathers and reliever Henry Henry.

ROAD TO OMAHA: The alma mater of reliever Jose Quezada and outfielder Grant Little, Texas Tech, is a win away from advancing to the College World Series for a 2nd year in a row. The Red Raiders beat Oklahoma State last night and host them against this evening. Outfielder Dwanya Williams-Sutton's alma mater, East Carolina, lost at Louisville last night and must win back-to-back games to reach Omaha for the first time ever.
