Beloit Sky Carp News Release
Beloit, WI - Appleton, WI - A night after splitting a double-header with the Timber Rattlers, the Snappers came out on top, 5-2, in the third contest of their five-game series in Appleton. Beloit used a three-run third inning and a solid start from Bryce Conley (2-3, 3.55 ERA) to down the Rattlers on Saturday night.
Conley and Wisconsin starter Reese Olson (2-4, 5.48 ERA) exchanged zeros through the first two innings before the Snappers' bats awakened in the third. Olson walked Skyler Weber, Joseph Pena and Ryan Gridley to load the bases with one out before Max Schuemann drove in the game's first run with a groundout. Anthony Churlin followed with a two-run double, extending Beloit's lead to 3-0.
Wisconsin countered with a two-run blast from Gabriel Garcia in the bottom of the fourth inning.
That was the only damage Conley would allow, however. The Beloit right-hander walked an unsightly six batters over his five innings, but allowed just two hits and managed to weave his way out of trouble on multiple occasions.
The Snappers added insurance late, as a Gridley two-run homer- his third of the year- put Beloit ahead by three. Richard Guasch did not need the help, though: the Cuban righty threw four shutout innings to finish off the Timber Rattlers. Guasch walked one and struck out four, a marked improvement from his last outing in which he walked six batters in just 2 1/3 innings. The two hottest Snappers at the moment, Churlin and Gridley, had two RBIs apiece on Saturday.
The teammates are currently on nearly identical hitting streaks, both of which were extended on Saturday: Churlin is 8-for-25 (.320) during his seven-game hitting streak, while Gridley is 8-for- 24 (.333) over the same stretch. Beloit looks to clinch a second consecutive road series win tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. CT. Joe
Demers (0-1, 6.59 ERA) goes for the Snappers while the Rattlers will counter with Brewers No. 27 prospect Adam Hill.
The Beloit Snappers are a member of the Midwest League and have been the Single-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. For more ticket information, contact the Snappers office at (608) 362- 2272 or visit our website, www.snappersbaseball.com.
