Timmermans Raises $24,000 for the Broncos Family Assistance Fund

Erie, Pennsylvania - Otters defenseman Aidan Timmermans announced a total of $12,000 raised from his t-shirt fundraiser collaboration with Iron Empire Clothing, a number that was matched by Erie Otters Owner and Governor Jim Waters to make a final donation of $24,000 to The Broncos Family Assistance Fund that benefits those affected by the tragic event involving the Humboldt Broncos hockey team this past April.

"I expected to sell a few shirts to family, friends, and through the gym I work out at," Timmermans said. "With the power of social media and help of the Otters, we took orders for 700 shirts in the first week. My experiences in the OHL really showed me that one person can make a difference. I'm very fortunate and extremely thankful to have the opportunity to contribute to the community in any way I can."

In early April, Timmermans teamed up with Erie's Iron Empire Clothing to design, print, and sell t-shirts with all proceeds assisting the Humboldt community following news of the crash involving the team bus of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's Humboldt Broncos. A total of 815 shirts were sold throughout the United States and Canada, including orders delivered to hall of fame motorsports driver Mario Andretti and Country Music Hall of Fame artist Garth Brooks.

"What Aidan did is what I believe we should all be doing and that is giving back, helping others," said Erie Otters Owner and President Jim Waters. "I wanted him to know how strongly I felt about what he was doing so I said I would match whatever he raised. A small gesture next to what he took on. The entire Erie Otters family is extremely proud of Aidan and his efforts."

The Broncos Family Assistance Fund was created through partnerships between the Canadian Hockey League, Hockey Canada, and the Saskatchewan Hockey Association to provide support for the families of the 29 people on the Humboldt Broncos team bus that was involved in the tragic accident on April 6th, 2018. Each family can apply for support for continuing education, medical treatment, or household and mobility needs. Nearly $290,000 has already been raised for the fund, and will be distributed evenly to the families.

The Erie Otters embark on their 23rd year of junior hockey in northwestern Pennsylvania this fall.
