Portland Timbers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers play host to Sporting Kansas City in the first leg of the Western Conference Championship in the 2018 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs on Sunday, Nov. 25, at Providence Park. Beginning at 4:30 p.m. (Pacific), Sunday's match, presented by the Oregon Lottery, features a national television broadcast on FS1 with local radio broadcasts on 750 AM/102.9 FM The Game (English) and La GranD 1150 AM/93.5 FM (Spanish).

MLS Cup Playoffs history

In 15 MLS playoff matches, the Timbers have posted a mark of 7-4-4 with 25 goals scored. The goals-per-game average of 1.67 is fourth-highest among all MLS teams. Since MLS returned to the two-conference playoff format, the 2018 Timbers are just the second Western Conference team to score two or more goals in each of its first three matches of a single postseason. The only other Western Conference team to accomplish this was the 2013 Timbers.

Western Conference Championship

Portland has now appeared in the conference championship three times (2013, 2015, 2018) in its last six seasons. The Timbers are one of just three teams to appear in three conference championships since 2013 (New York Red Bulls, Seattle Sounders FC).

Postseason form

In three MLS Cup Playoff games in 2018, a total of four different players have tallied at least one goal for the Timbers (Dairon Asprilla, Sebastián Blanco, Jeremy Ebobisse, Diego Valeri). Portland's four different goal-scorers are tied for the most scorers by a single team in the playoffs in 2018. Valeri has tallied a goal or an assist in each of Portland's first three playoff matches in 2018, tallying his seventh career playoff assist in the second leg against Seattle on Nov. 8. His seven assists are the most playoff assists of any active MLS player. In Valeri's last eight playoff games, he has three goals and six assists.

Up next
