Starting at 6 p.m. (Pacific), Sunday's match will be nationally televised on ESPN2 with local radio broadcasts on 750 AM/102.9 FM The Game (English) and La GranD 1150 AM/93.5 FM (Spanish).

Heading into Sunday's contest, the Timbers (3-1-0, 9 pts) have won seven straight home games dating back to last season, with the team winning both of its home matches to start the 2017 campaign. The Timbers have received goals from six different players, and assists from eight different players through the first four games of the 2017 season, with Dairon Asprilla scoring his first goal of the year in Portland's most recent match against Columbus Crew SC on March 25. Forward Fanendo Adi also scored against Crew SC, recording his fourth goal in four games played and 45th MLS regular-season goal, tying the Timbers record for goals scored across all eras of the club (since 1975).

Sunday's fixture marks the eighth regular-season match between Portland and New England (1-2-0, 3pts) since the Timbers joined MLS in 2011. Since falling 1-0 to New England on March 24, 2012, Portland is unbeaten in its last four league matches played against the Revolution. Additionally, at Providence Park, the Timbers are 2-0-1 against New England since 2011, outscoring the Eastern Conference side 5-0 during that stretch. In the only meeting between the two teams in 2016, the Timbers took a point on the road, batting the Revolution to a 1-1 draw at Gillette Stadium, with Jack Barmby recording his first goal for Portland, scoring in the 64th minute of play. In the last match between the two teams at Providence Park, the Timbers defeated New England 2-0 on June 6, 2015, behind a two-goal performance from Adi, with the striker scoring in the 86th and 89th minutes.

After opening the season with back-to-back away games, falling 1-0 to the Colorado Rapids on March 4, before suffering a 2-1 defeat to FC Dallas on March 18, New England ventures into Sunday's match after picking up its first win of the season on March 25, defeating Minnesota United FC 5-2 at home. Four different players scored for New England in the win against Minnesota, with forward Juan Agudelo recording his first brace of the season, while midfielder Lee Nguyen recorded a goal and an assist. Through three games played, Nguyen and Agudelo are tied for the team lead in goals (2), while midfielder Diego Fagundez leads the team in assists (2).

Following Sunday's match, the Timbers will travel to Talen Energy Stadium to face the Philadelphia Union on Saturday, April 8. Beginning at 4 p.m. (Pacific), the match against Philadelphia will be broadcast live on ROOT SPORTS, with local radio broadcasts on 750 AM/102.9 FM The Game (English) and La GranD 1150 AM/93.5 FM (Spanish).
