Portland Timbers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers today announced the signing of goalkeeper Adin Brown and defender Steve Purdy. Both were members of the Timbers' second-division club in 2010. Timbers general manager/technical director Gavin Wilkinson made the announcement.
Brown, 32, returned to the United States in 2010 to join the Timbers after four seasons in Norway with Aalesund FC, where he appeared in 69 games with the club from 2005-09. A native of Pleasant Hill, Calif., Brown played five seasons in MLS before taking his career abroad. He was selected third-overall in the 2000 MLS SuperDraft by the Colorado Rapids and started 83 MLS matches, playing for Colorado (2000-01), Tampa Bay Mutiny (2001) and New England Revolution (2002-04). He helped the Revolution to three straight playoff appearances and a trip to the 2002 MLS Cup final.
Brown was a member of the U.S. U-23 National Team from 1998-2000, helping the team qualify for the 2000 Olympics and to a bronze-medal finish at the 1999 Pan-Am Games. He has been called into camp with the senior U.S. National team on several occasions and was on the roster during the 2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Purdy, 25, was a versatile member of the Timbers defense in 2010, playing in various positions across the backline and helping the club rank among second-division leaders in fewest goals allowed and shutouts last season. He played in 24 games during the regular season, logging 1,536 minutes.
A native of Morgan Hill, Calif., Purdy started his professional career in Germany with TSV 1860 Munich in 2007. He was a member of the 2.Bundesliga club for two seasons before returning to the United States to join FC Dallas for the 2009 MLS campaign. On the international level, he played for the U.S. National Team at the U-18, U-20 and U-23 levels and was called into camp with the senior team in 2007.
