Portland Timbers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers today released the club's 2012 Major League Soccer Reserve League schedule. The Timbers Reserves will play a 10-match season against five regional opponents.
In 2012, the Timbers Reserves will face the reserve sides of Western Conference rivals Chivas USA, LA Galaxy, San Jose Earthquakes Seattle Sounders FC and Vancouver Whitecaps FC twice - once at home and once away - during the Reserve League season. Ticket information and an on-sale date for Timbers Reserves games will be announced at a later date.
For the Reserve League, MLS's 19 clubs have been divided into three conferences - Western, Central and Eastern. Both the Western and Central Conferences include six clubs, while the Eastern consists of seven teams.
Teams may at their discretion schedule additional exhibition games for their reserve squads against non-MLS opponents.
At the conclusion of the Reserve League season, the team with the most points out of all three conferences will be determined the Reserve League champion. As in MLS, three points are awarded for a win, one point for a draw and no points for a loss.
Full rules and regulations for the 2012 MLS Reserve League season can be found in the Reserve League Handbook, by clicking here.
