PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers received a second-half goal from Yimmi Chara to secure a 1-0 win against Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Providence Park and moved to the top of the Western Conference standings on Sunday night.

Playoff Picture

With the win, Portland (11-5-5, 1.81 ppg) sits atop the Western Conference standings based on points per game. The Timbers enter the final week of the regular season with two matches remaining on their schedule, squaring off against the Colorado Rapids (Nov. 4) and Los Angeles FC (Nov. 8). Sporting Kansas City currently sits in second place (1.8 ppg) and Seattle Sounders FC are in third place at 1.75 points per game.

Streaking

The Timbers are unbeaten in their last four matches, posting a record of 2-0-2. Portland has won four of its last five homes matches at Providence Park, extending its home unbeaten streak to five games (4-0-1). Notably, the Timbers have three shutouts in those five matches, while outscoring their opponents 11-3.

Against Vancouver

Portland improved to 13-7-6 all-time against Vancouver in regular-season play, including a record of 8-2-4 in home matches. In matches against Whitecaps FC in Portland, the Timbers have won six of the last seven meetings, outscoring Vancouver by a margin of 14-7. Portland recorded 1-0 shutout wins over Whitecaps FC in both meetings this season.

Villafaña's five assists lead all MLS defenders this season and ties his career high for assists set in 2015 and 2019.

Villafaña has recorded 18 assists in his career with the Timbers, which is the most by any defender in club history. He has now moved into 10th place on Portland's all-eras assist leaderboard.

Yimmi Chara scored his fourth goal of the season. Chara is the fifth Timbers player to score four or more goals this season.

Chara has two game-winning goals in 2020 with both coming in 1-0 home wins.

Goalkeeper Steve Clark recorded his 13th career clean sheet with the club. His 13 clean sheets are tied for second-most among Portland goalkeepers in MLS play with Adam Kwarasey.

Clark appeared in his 50th career match with the Timbers.

The match was the first regular-season game Portland has played in the month of November.
