Sporting Kansas City News Release
Sporting Kansas City (11-6-3, 36 points) will battle for the top seed in the Western Conference on Sunday when the regular season comes to a dramatic end during MLS Decision Day 2020 presented by AT&T. Occupying second place in the West, Sporting will visits rivals Real Salt Lake (5-9-7, 22 points) at 5:30 p.m. CT in a regular season finale rife with postseason implications.
Manager Peter Vermes' side can clinch the No. 1 playoff seed in the West if they defeat Real Salt Lake and both the Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders FC drop points in either of their final two regular season matches on Wednesday and Sunday, respectively. Sporting is already assured of a playoff berth and top-three finish in the West, with Vermes becoming the first head coach in MLS history to make nine postseason appearances with a single club.
Sunday's all-important battle will be shown live on FOX Sports Kansas City, FOX Sports Midwest and FOX Sports GO with three hours of live coverage beginning at 5 p.m. CT. The contest will also air locally on ESPN 94.5 and La Grande 1340 AM, with The Final Whistle postgame show immediately following on 94.5 FM.
A new episode of the Sporting Kansas City Show will debut Tuesday at 7 p.m. CT on Sports Radio 810 WHB. Hosts Nate Bukaty, Carter Augustine and Aly Trost will hear from a Sporting guest and preview a pivotal final week of MLS regular season action as the playoff picture solidifies.
