
Timbers Open Preseason Tournament with 1-0 Win over Minnesota United FC

PORTLAND, Ore. - Playing the first of three matches in the Timbers Preseason Tournament presented by Old Trapper Beef Jerky at Providence Park, the Portland Timbers recorded a goal in the first half to register a 1-0 win over Minnesota United FC on Sunday afternoon. Yimmi Chara tallied the lone goal assisted by Santiago Moreno.
Preseason in Portland
Today's match marked the first of the 2022 preseason tournament hosted by the Timbers. Portland opened the tournament against Minnesota today and will match up against Viking FK on Wednesday, Feb. 16, and Real Salt Lake on Saturday, Feb. 19. Notably, the Timbers beat Minnesota United and RSL in the 2021 playoffs to advance to the MLS Cup but will face Viking FK for the first time in club history. All matches will be streamed live on www.timbers.com.
Providence Park Debuts
Seven players made their debuts at Providence Park in preseason action for Portland: Abraham Bahachille, David Bingham, Diego Gutierrez, Dawson McCartney, Justin Rasmussen, Ian Shaul and Milo Wray.
Notes
All 11 starters for the Timbers were returners from the 2021 season. Yimmi Chara scored his first goal of preseason and Santiago Moreno tallied his first assist. Aljaz Ivacic and David Bingham combined in goal for the shutout.
