TACOMA, WASH. - Sounders FC 2 (2-6-1, 7 points) on Saturday at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma lost in second-half stoppage time to Portland Timbers 2, 1-0. In a game of few chances, the match was largely played in the midfield, and ultimately decided in the closing minutes. Victor Arboleda crossed the ball into the box from the left side and Eryk Williamson finished with his right foot to give Portland three points.

In the only clear-cut chance in the first half, T2's Renzo Zambrano collected a loose ball 30 yards from goal and fired a shot to the bottom corner, forcing a sprawling save from S2's Calle Brown.
Marlon Vargas and Jesse Daley made their S2 debuts in front of a raucous crowd of 4,602 fans in Tacoma. Vargas started the match at attacking midfield and played 55 minutes before David Estrada entered the match in the second half. Academy player Blake Malone started at centerback for Seattle, making his second appearance of the season.
S2 resumes USL action on Saturday, May 19 on the road against Reno 1868 FC. Kickoff for the contest is slated for 7:30 p.m. PT on ESPN+.
