Tillman Throws No-Hitter in 6-0 Win over G-Braves

The Lead: The Norfolk Tides defeated the Gwinnett Braves 6-0 on Wednesday night at Coolray Field. Norfolk starting pitcher Chris Tillman threw the first no-hitter of his career. This was the first no-hitter against the Braves since they have moved to Gwinnett, the first no-hitter thrown at Coolray Field, and the first no-hitter thrown against the Triple-A Braves affiliate since 1993. Gwinnett (9-12) falls into a tie for second place with Norfolk (9-12) in the International League South. Both teams are 6 games behind Durham in the IL South.

It Was Over When: Tillman took the mound. It was the first no-hitter for the Norfolk Tides since 1992.

Braves Beat:

On the Mound: Starter James Parr (1-2) went 5.0 innings and threw 5 strikeouts. Mariano Gomez stuck out 2 in 2.2 IP.

At the plate: Designated hitter Brent Clevlen reached base on a walk while second baseman Joe Thurston reached base on an error.

The Opposition:

On the Mound: Tillman (2-3) pitched a complete game. He struck out 6 G-Braves and allowed only 1 walk.

At the plate: Right fielder Jeff Salazar went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Second baseman Scott Moore went 1-for-5 with 2 runs scored.

On Deck: Gwinnett hosts Norfolk in game three of a four-game series tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. at Coolray Field. G-Braves RHP Chris Resop (1-1, 1.37 ERA) is scheduled to face RHP Jake Arrieta (2-0, 0.36 ERA) of the Tides.
