Saint John Sea Dogs News Release

SAINT JOHN, N.B. - The Victoriaville Tigres downed the Saint John Sea Dogs 3-2 Saturday to even their best-of-seven quarter-final series 1-1.

Jonathan Huberdeau and Steven Anthony scored in a losing cause as the Dogs suffered their first home loss of the season in regulation time, ending a 37-game run. Jacob DeSerres stopped 24 shots.

Phillip Danault led the way with two goals and was 18-for-25 in the faceoff circle, while David Honzik made 41 saves in the Victoriaville net. Brandon Hynes had the other goal for the Tigres and Samuel Groulx had two assists.

Victoriaville got off to a good start with a pair of goals late in the first period. Hynes scored on a power play at 17:34 of the opening frame. Danault then made it 2-0 at 19:30, winning a faceoff to the right of DeSerres and driving to the net to finish Guillaume Goulet's rebound.

The Sea Dogs cut the lead in half on Huberdeau's goal on a power play at 12:42 of the second. Nathan Beaulieu's point shot was blocked but bounced right to Huberdeau, who tucked in his seventh of the playoffs. Eric Gelinas had the other assist.

Anthony equalized on a strange play at 3:01 of the third. He wired a wrist shot from the slot that appeared to beat Honzik, but was waved off by the referee. At the next stoppage in play, a lengthy video review ensued, during which Sea Dogs fans circled Harbour Station with several revolutions of The Wave. Finally the play was called a goal, Anthony's fourth of the playoffs. Gabriel Bourret and Tomas Jurco assisted on the power-play marker.

Danault notched the game winner on a power play with three minutes to go, as he got open to the left of DeSerres and banged home a one-timer. The Dogs pulled DeSerres with a minute to go and had a power play of their own, but were unable to beat Honzik.

The series continues with Games 3, 4 and 5 in Victoriaville on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, all 8 p.m. Atlantic Time starts. Tim Roszell will have the call on News 88.9 FM .
