Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
Edmonton, AB - The Medicine Hat Tigers defeated the Edmonton Oil Kings 2-1 in game one of their first round matchup.
Rookie goaltender Mads Søgaard made 49 saves on 50 shots faced to help lead the Tabbies to victory.
After a scoreless first period, James Hamblin opened the scoring in the middle frame by combining with Tyler Preziuso while on the penalty kill.
Midway through the stanza, Hayden Ostir scored to make it 2-0 for the Tigers. Ostir's goal was assisted by Corson Hopwo and Logan Christensen.
Late in the final frame, Oil Kings forward Josh Williams scored to cut the Tabbies' lead but the Tigers held on to win 2-1.
Dylan Myskiw stopped 25 of the Tabbies' 27 shots.
The two Central Division Rivals will meet Sunday night for game two in Edmonton. The puck will drop at 6 PM.
