Tigers Sign Defenceman Steen to WHL Scholarship & Development Agreement

Medicine Hat, AB - The Medicine Hat Tigers are proud to announce the signing of Riley Steen (Ladysmith, BC) to a WHL Scholarship & Development Agreement.

Steen was selected in the 6th round of the 2023 WHL Prospects Drafty May 11th, playing his U15 hockey at the Okangan Hockey Academy U15 Prep Program in Penticton, B.C. Riley scored 36 points (6 goals, 30 assists) in 26 games during the 2022-23 CSSHL season.

Riley says he looks forward to the opportunity to play for the Tigers and be a part of the Western Hockey League.

"I wanted to come here and make an impression," he says. "I want to come in and have a good training camp with the veterans here, play in a couple of exhibition games, and hopefully get an affiliation game in this coming season, but all I'm thinking about right now is working as hard as I can to be a guy that everyone can depend on."

Tigers Head Coach & General Manager Willie Desjardins was very impressed with Steen's abilities during the Tigers Prospects Camp in late May.

"Riley is a good young defenceman who sees the ice well and is a great skater," he says. "We're looking forward to seeing him in a Tigers uniform."

Steen joins Liam & Markus Ruck as members of the Tigers to sign a WHL Scholarship & Development agreement, Both Steen & the Ruck brothers were teammates this past season. Riley will play his U18 hockey this season at the Okanagan Hockey Academy in Penticton once again.
