
Tigers Pounce on Cougars in 5-2 Win

Medicine Hat, AB - The Medicine Hat Tigers won the battle of the Cats on Tuesday night with a 5-2 win at Co-op Place.
Off to the first period where it was Cayden Lindstrom (Chetwynd, BC) cashed in with his 12th of the season from Dallon Melin (Czar, AB) at 1:56 into the period. Tigers goaltender Beckett Langkow (Vegreville, AB) was busy and steady steering away 13 Cougar shots and the Tigers would reward his efforts as Andrew Basha (Calgary, AB) was able to bust in on a partial breakaway for his 8th of the season beating Cougars starter Ty Young, Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) & Kurtis Smythe (Cloverdale, BC) added assists on 2nd of the period for the Tigers. Medicine Hat wasn't done there as on their first power play of the night Shane Smith (Cessford, AB) gets his 13th of the year from Wiesblatt and Bogdans Hodass (Jelgava, LAT) making it 3-0 Tigers after 20 minutes of play.
Into the middle frame, the Tigers would pile on the shots but Cougar relief goaltender Tyler Brennan was able to keep the tabbies at bay and Vilam Kmec would squeak one shot past Langkow with just 1:58 left in the 2nd to make things interesting going to the third.
In the final frame the Tigers would regain their 3-goal lead thanks to the second of the night on another Tigers man-advantage as Basha notched his 9th of the campaign at 3:34 as Brayden Boehn (Nanaimo, BC) and Smith would add helpers in the cause. Late in the game Prince George would score on a 6 on 4 situation with the net empty and on a power play at 19:14 from Chase Wheatcroft but Dallon Melin would score his 11th on the same empty net with just 6 seconds left in the game finishing off the Cougars for the Tigers 16th win of the year.
Prince George would end up outshooting the Tigers 29-28, while Medicine Hat were able to win the special teams battle going 2/4 on the power play & 2/3 on the penalty kill and Beckett Langkow would make 27 saves in the win for his 14th of the season.
With the win the Tigers are now 16-21-5-1 for 38 points and sit 3 points back of the Swift Current Broncos for 8th in the Eastern Conference standings heading into action Wednesday against those very same Broncos.
