Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release

LOWELL, MA - The Connecticut Tigers used a four-run first inning and some great pitching from Matt Crouse and Rayni Guichardo to take down the Lowell Spinners 6-1 on Friday night at LeLacheur Park.

Connecticut roared out with a four-run first inning. Tyler Collins started off the rally with a base hit and Jason King was hit by a pitch. The Tigers leading batter Dean Green then drove a two-run double into the left field gap, while Aaron Westlake followed with his first home run with Connecticut, a two-run blast to right field to put the Tigers out in front 4-0.

Tim Roberson got the Spinners on the board in the second with his second homer of the year, a solo shot to left that cut the Tigers lead to 4-1.

However, the Tigers tacked on insurance runs in the seventh on a Zach Maggard RBI single and ninth on a Westlake groundout to go on top 6-1.

Tigers starter Matt Crouse earned his second win of the season by going five innings and giving up just a run on three hits. Rayni Guichardo came out of the bullpen in the sixth and retired ten Spinners batters in a row before giving up a couple hits in the ninth, but finished off the victory to nailed down his first save of the season. Lowell starter Tyler Wilson suffered his third loss of the year.

Westlake finished the game with three RBI, while Green, Collins, Maggard, Colin Kaline and Zach Maggard all had two hits each.

With the win the Tigers now stand alone in second place in the Stedler division, while they also gained a game on the division leading Vermont Lake Monsters following their loss.

The Tigers will finish the five-game road trip tomorrow evening against the Lowell Spinners. First pitch is set for 5:05 PM.
