Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
Medicine Hat, AB - As we move closer towards the beginning of the 2023-2024 WHL Season, the Medicine Hat Tigers continue to look back on some of our greatest plays, moments, players & teams throughout the offseason from all different eras and times with our organization.
Continuing with the 2023-2024 season still, the Medicine Hat Tigers embarked on an early season road trip that found themselves on the end of a pair of losses along with an opening trip win against the Everett Silvertips on October 7, 2022. But coming off a loss in overtime in Portland the following night, paired with a 5-2 loss to the eventual WHL Champion Seattle Thunderbirds on October 11th... the Tigers needed a response on their way to Kennewick, WA to battle the Tri-City Americans for the first time like others on the US road was the first time in four years.
The Toyota Centre was busy in the first period as the Americans & Tigers would score early and often starting with the Tigers less than five minutes into the frame as Shane Smith (Cessford, AB) would open the scoring with his second goal of the road trip at 4:50 would give the Tigers the early lead, but just 24 seconds later the Americans would respond via Tyson Greenway to even things up at 1-1. From the game-tying goal, the Tigers would regain the lead 1:54 later at 7:10 as Brayden Boehm (Nanaimo, BC) would give the orange & black in the lead once again. But once again 29 seconds later, the Americans would get the fire wagon game going into high gear as Adam Mechura would tie things up at 2-2.
The smoke would settle for a while in the first but the Tigers would finally get the lead again and never relinquish it again as Boehm would get his second of the night in what would be a monumental night for the second-year Tiger at 15:46.
Medicine Hat would take their grip on the Americans in the final 40 minutes as they'd score eight of the next nine goals in the Toyota Centre as Dallon Melin, Cayden Lindstrom, Pasha Bocharov, Brenden Lee, Tyler MacKenzie, Andrew Basha and Shane Smith's first career hat-trick would be all in part of the biggest win of the season and the most goals the Tigers would score in a single game in 2022-2023, 11-3 over the Americans. (Beating their mark of nine goals in the season opener at home against Lethbridge).
Here are some more notable nights from the 11-3 victory in Kennewick.
