Hamilton Tiger-Cats News Release

Hamilton, Ontario -- The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are pleased to announce that the team has come to terms on two-year (plus an option) contracts with import linebacker Mickey Donovan and non-import running back Godfrey Lewis. Both players attended the Ticats' free agent camp in April.

The free agent camp, held at Ivor Wynne Stadium from April 22-24, featured over 50 players who were looking to earn an invite to training camp.

"The camp was a huge success from our standpoint," said Ticats head coach Greg Marshall. "It was great to see guys going hard in such a competitive environment. We saw a lot of guys who can really play."

Donovan joins the Ticats after three seasons at Concordia University. The Laconia, New Hampshire native was awarded the President's Trophy last year as the nation's outstanding defensive player. The 6', 230-pound linebacker finished his CIS career with 176 tackles, 5.5 sacks and three interceptions in 19 games. Before transferring to Concordia, Donovan played two seasons with the University of Maine Black Bears where he recorded 27 tackles and 4.5 sacks in 10 games.

"Mickey turned some heads," Marshall remarked. "We were impressed with his physical play and we're excited to watch him compete for a spot at training camp."

Lewis, a 5-9, 190-pound native of Toronto spent five seasons (1998-2002) at Bowling Green State University, recording 1,431 yards and nine touchdowns on 359 carries in 34 games.

"Lewis was very impressive," Marshall noted. "We can't wait to bring him to training camp and see what he's capable of once he goes up against some stiffer competition."

The Ticats open training camp on May 29th at McMaster University.
