Hamilton Tiger-Cats News Release

When Ben Sankey graduated from Wake Forest University in 1999, he didn't think he'd be wearing black and gold, the colours of the Demon Deacons, again.

In a bit of irony, not only will be in black and gold, but, he'll be back with his collegiate quarterback coach.

Sankey, a 6-foot-3, 209 pounder, has signed a contract with the Tiger-Cats, and, he'll be joining Hamilton offensive co-ordinator Jamie Barresi.

"Ben is a really hard-working guy in the time I had him at Wake Forest" said Barresi. "He's really smart and dedicated, and, very athletic. He brings different things to the table than other quarterbacks do, and that will make things interesting for the opposition."

After graduating, Ben was in Calgary in 2000 and 2001, then, went to the Houston Texans camp in 2002. After he was released, he rejoined the Stampeders. Last season, he went to Montreal Alouettes training camp, then, tried his luck down south.

"I had a few workouts in the NFL, and things didn't work out, so I'm really happy to be back in the CFL," Sankey said. "This is a great opportunity for me to learn and play alongside Danny McManus. The organization is really turning around, and I'm glad to be a part of it."

Barresi also is happy that Sankey signed with Hamilton, pointing out, "Ben's been on our radar for a long time. I really felt strongly about him, and he did some great things for us at Wake, and I know he can be a really good player."

In his three years as a Stampeder, Sankey completed 146-238 passes for an even 2,000 yards, a 61% completion rate, 16 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Sankey will join the other Tiger-Cats at training camp, which begins May 23 at McMaster University in Hamilton.
