Brooklyn Cyclones News Release
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - For the second-straight night, the Brooklyn Cyclones held the Jersey Shore BlueClaws to just one run. The Cyclones topped the BlueClaws, 5-1, on Friday night at Maimonides Park behind the right arm of RHP Blade Tidwell (5-3). The Loretto, Tennessee native struck out a career high 11 batters. Offensively, both DH Kevin Parada and RF Stanley Consuegra launched home runs for Brooklyn.
Brooklyn jumped out on top first in the bottom of the first when Parada planted a ball beyond the left center field wall to give the 'Clones a 1-0 lead. The long ball marked the former Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket's eighth bomb of the season, good for the team lead.
The 'Clones bats were out in full force early, putting up three more in the second. First, C Drake Osborn walked with the bases loaded to give Brooklyn a 2-0 lead. From there, SS César Berbesi scorched a sac fly to right to plate 1B Chase Estep. CF Alex Ramírez provided the final blow of the frame, notching an RBI double to left field to provide Brooklyn an early 4-0 lead.
The BlueClaws got one back in the fifth, when Tidwell made his only mistake of the night - allowing a solo shot off the bat of C Anthony Quirion.
Brooklyn got the run back in the bottom of the eighth, when Consuegra launched his sixth home run of the season. The homer was the first time Consuegra left the ballpark since May 12 in Wilmington, prior to his trip to the injured list.
In addition to Tidwell, RHP Paul Gervase gave Brooklyn another quality appearance out of the bullpen. The former LSU Tiger tossed two scoreless frames, striking out three and slamming the door on the Jersey Shore bats.
The Cyclones are back at it Saturday evening at Maimonides Park for a 6:00 p.m. start against the BlueClaws. Brooklyn has not yet named a probable, while LHP Rafael Marcano (3-5, 4.57) expected to get the nod for Jersey Shore.
