Norfolk Tides News Release
The 2003 season has started with the Tides having an exciting team on the field. Speed, defense and good pitching are the ingredients to a winning season and at this point the Norfolk team has exhibited all three.
If you have not been to a game yet this young season you are missing some pleasing additions to Harbor Park. The food service has been upgraded in both the concessions and the suites. You will find a greater menu variety and more portable locations to easily get your favorite food and beverage. The Philly Cheese Steak and the Smithfield BBQ stands are 2 new locations that you will attract you. Both locations serve grilled hot dogs to avoid having to stand in a line if you want only those items. We continue to have many beverage portable locations to expedite your service also.
There have also been some cosmetic and graphic changes to the ballpark that should make your visit more enjoyable. It is hard to imagine that we are beginning our 11th year in Harbor Park. Not only does it seem like yesterday that we opened the park, but the condition of the venue is still excellent and compares very favorably to baseball stadiums that have opened in the last three years.
Last homestand (April 24) the Tides played their 2nd business special afternoon game of the year. Over 9,200 fans were in attendance and treated to a perfect, sunny day at the park. The Tides came from a 5 run deficit to tie the game and then win it with a three run homer in the bottom of the tenth inning. I refer to it because I encourage you to look at our schedule and try to come out for an afternoon game. Sunday home games start at 1:15 until the end of June and we still have 5 midweek afternoon games left with the next one being May 8. Those weekday afternoon games start at 12:15. Mark your calendar and buy your tickets in advance to spend a great afternoon at the ballpark.
We also have many terrific special nights this year so buy your tickets in advance for those games you know you will want to attend. I encourage you to get tickets early for the July 3rd fireworks night since that is usually a sellout.
I have already spoken to a number of you at Harbor Park, but please don't hesitate to call me or approach me during a game if you have a question or comment. Here is to a great 2003 season. I hope you will enjoy the team and the park.
