CRESTWOOD, Ill. -- The Windy City ThunderBolts have set a single-season team record for attendance, breaking the mark set during the franchise's inaugural season.

In 1999, the expansion Cook County Cheetahs drew 86,248 fans to a ballpark then known as Hawkinson Ford Field.

Nine years later, now playing at Standard Bank Stadium, the 2007 Frontier League champions topped the mark with a Sunday crowd of 1,436 against the Florence Freedom. With three home games left to play, Windy City has drawn a total attendance of 87,366, an average of 1,820 fans per game.

"We are enthused by the ever-increasing fan support for the ThunderBolts in the Chicago Southland region," said General Manager Steve Tahsler. "It is a pleasure to have such a rapidly growing fanbase cheering us on as we look to defend our Frontier League championship."

Windy City is currently locked in a first place tie with the Southern Illinois Miners atop the West Division with nine games remaining in the season.

The ThunderBolts finish the regular season with a home series against the Rockford RiverHawks from September 1-3. Each game begins at 7:05 p.m. with gates opening an hour earlier. The games feature a Back to School special, with lower level box seats available at half-price for students and faculty members who show school ID.

ThunderBolts tickets are available for purchase via telephone at 708-489-2255 or by visiting the Windy City ThunderBolts' website at www.wcthunderbolts.com.
