ThunderBolts Lose Late Lead, Fall to Gateway

Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
CRESTWOOD, IL - Henry Omaña pitched six shutout innings but the ThunderBolts couldn't hang on to a late 1-0 lead as the Gateway Grizzlies took game one of a two-game series 2-1 at Ozinga Field Friday night.
Omaña entered the game with a 4-0 record and 1.00 ERA and he picked up right where he left off, not allowing a hit until a bunt single in the fifth.
The offense gave him a little early support with a second-inning run. Back-to-back singles from Dan Robinson and Will Riley got the rally started and an RBI groundout from Junior Martina made it 1-0.
That remained the score all the way until the top of the eighth inning. After a single and a walk put two Grizzlies on base with one out. Former ThunderBolt Jairus Richards hit a groundball back to the mound that Derrick Edington threw away. Then DJ Stewart hit a flyball to center field that Bren Spillane lost in the lights. The two misplays led to two runs and a Gateway lead.
The Bolts (8-12) threatened, putting a runner at second base in the bottom of the ninth but didn't score as Gateway (15-4) won their ninth straight game.
Joey Gonzalez (3-1) allowed just a run over seven innings and earned the win. Edington (0-1) took the loss. Colton Easterwood pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his first save.
The series concludes on Saturday night with a 6:05 first pitch. It's Beatles Night at Ozinga Field and Kaleidoscope Eyes will be on hand to perform a pregame Beatles cover concert at 4:15. Fireworks will follow the game. Cole Bellair (0-4, 5.96) gets the start for Windy City against Gateway's Lukas Veinbergs (2-1, 8.66).
