
ThunderBolts Fall to RiverKings 5-3

Evansville Thunderbolts News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN - Evansville erased an early two-goal deficit in the first period, but couldn't protect their 3-2 lead against Mississippi Friday night.
Two players scored their first goals as Thunderbolts in the first period to tie the game after 20 minutes of play. Tyler Gjurich scored his 11th goal of the season in his first game for Evansville. Defenseman Cory Melkert scored his second goal of the season as well as his first Thunderbolt tally. Melkert scored on a rebound after a great offensive effort by David Williams who stick-handled down the right wing before forcing RiverKing's netminder Brad Barone to make a save.
Evansville took the lead in the second period on Williams' 10th goal of the season. The goal was assisted by Josh Elmes and Vytal Cote. Mississippi would tie the game near the end of the second period. Mike Moran scored his team high 19th goal on a deflection in front of Thunderbolt's goaltender Mike Doan.
Evansville notched their first two fighting majors on home ice with Al Graves and Ryan Patsch, each earning five for fighting. The fisticuffs excited the Ford Center fan base, but momentum swung the RiverKing's way. Evansville was outshot 15-7 in the second period.
Mississippi got the game-winning goal 41 seconds into the third period. Ryan Marcuz scored to make the score 4-3. Cody Castro and Dillan Fox assisted on the goal. Marcuz would strike again just two minutes later to put the game out of reach. Mississippi outshot Evansville 13-2 during the first seven minutes of the period. Evansville drew two power play opportunities in the third period, but couldn't get the puck past Barone.

David Williams had a goal and an assist with three shots.Tommy Fiorentino's assist on Cory Melkert's goal gives him a team high 18 for the season.Stephon Thorne had an assist in his first game with the Thunderbolt's since December 3.
