
Thunderbirds outlast Jam

Bakersfield, CA Jan. 27 - The Albuquerque Thunderbirds were able to hold off the Bakersfield Jam's numerous comeback attempts Saturday night with a 104 - 92 victory in Bakersfield before a crowd of 4,179. With this victory, Albuquerque snapped a 4 game losing streak and extended Bakersfield's to 3. The Thunderbirds were led by John Edwards who finished the game with 26 points and 10 rebounds.
Albuquerque got off to a fast start as they were able to end the first quarter with a 16 point lead. However, the Jam came back strong in the second quarter, going on a 13 - 4 run. In the second half, Bakersfield was able to cut the lead to five, but could not get any closer as Albuquerque finished the game strong.
"We needed a win in the worst way," said Albuquerque coach Michael Cooper. "We wanted to come out fast and avenge our loss to them from earlier this season."
Saturday's difficult loss dropped the Jam to a Western Division worst record of 7 - 16. "We missed too many foul shots," said Bakersfield coach Jim Harrick. "We had too many fouls, and too many unnecessary fouls."
Cedric Bozeman came up huge Saturday with 25 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds. Joe Shipp added 17 points.
The Jam was led by Gerry McNamara's 19 points and 4 assits. Tony Bobbitt added 15 points while Yuta Tabuse tallied 12.
The Jam and Thunderbirds will face off again Tuesday, February 6th in Albuquerque.
