PERSON OF THE WEEK: D-League Regional Manager of Player Development Shawn Respert was named this week's SI.com Person of the Week. The piece chronicles the former Michigan State star and first-round draft pick's battle with cancer and his ability to relate his story to struggles encountered by players in the D-League. JEREMY TO THE A-T-L: The Atlanta Hawks signed Fort Worth forward Jeremy Richardson to a 10-day contract on Saturday, making him the seventh Gatorade Call-Up this season.
BACK TO SAN ANTONE: The San Antonio Spurs recalled James White from the Austin Toros Saturday. Since being assigned to the Toros, White played in 15 games (11 starts), averaging 16.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.67 steals in 34.4 minutes.
THEY SAID IT: "That's what you want out of a point guard. He makes good decisions, and he knows how to control the tempo, runs the screen and roll extremely well and pushes the ball up the court. He makes us a better team." ... Fort Worth coach Sidney Moncrief on Mavericks assigned player Jose Barea after he scored 25 points, had 11 assists and just two turnovers against Dakota on Saturday.
D-LEAGUE STARS: Balloting for the D-League All-Star Game continues through Feb. 1 at D-LEAGUE.com. The inaugural D-League All-Star Game will be played Feb. 17 on Center Court at NBA All-Star Jam Session at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Tip off is scheduled for 2 p.m. PT and the game will air live on NBA TV.
