Los Angeles D-Fenders News Release
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA Development League dominated the Bakersfield Jam in this afternoon's match-up for the 119-97 victory at STAPLES Center.
Building off their momentum from the first half, the D-Fenders distanced themselves from the Jam in the 3rd quarter. In the 4th quarter, Los Angeles held Bakersfield to 35% shooting and outscored the Jam 33-22.
Los Angeles had six players in double-figures and was led by forward Sean Banks. Banks connected on all 16 of his free throw attempts, leading to his game-high 29 points. D-Fenders guard Brian Chase hit four 3-pointers in the second half for his 18 points. Guard Andre Emmett added 20 points off the bench.
"We clamped down and played defense. We controlled the glass and got down the court to score some easy baskets," said Chase.
Bakersfield was led by centers Kevinn Pinkney and Patrick O'Bryant. Pinkney scored a team-high 19 points, while O'Bryant had 14 points and 9 rebounds.
The Jam made a strong push for the lead in the fourth quarter, but Los Angeles countered with a 13-0 run using solid defense and determined play on both sides of the floor.
"We made our runs when we played defense and that triggered our fast break. Offensively we did a great job. I thought that we played very loose offensively and this was definitely one of our better games this year," said Los Angeles Head Coach Dan Panaggio.
The D-Fenders have the lead in this series, which stands at 3-1. The D-Fenders now sit at 13-12 (.520) overall.
Going into February, the D-Fenders hit the road for five games with stops in Idaho, North Dakota, and South Dakota. The team returns to STAPLES Center on Thursday, February 15 to host the Tulsa 66ers, before the Lakers game, with a 3:30pm tip off.
Having a Lakers ticket for a STAPLES Center home game is also your ticket to a lower level seat for the D-Fenders. Lakers season ticket holders who attend a D-Fenders home game will receive a special gift, while supplies last, by visiting the Season Ticket Holder Booth on the main concourse at the Figueroa Street Entrance.
On July 31, 2006 the Los Angeles Lakers announced that they had become the first NBA franchise in history to own an NBA Development League team. The Los Angeles D-Fenders play their home games at STAPLES Center pre and post Lakers home games. The Lakers devoted fans were given the opportunity to name the NBA D-League team in an online naming contest.
