Thunderbirds Offer Game Day Volunteer Opportunities

Rio Rancho, NM - The New Mexico Thunderbirds are offering several opportunities for community members to become involved with the team through a number of game night volunteer opportunities that will be available for the 2010-11 season.

The Thunderbirds, who will begin their first season at the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho on November 26th, have openings available for the following positions:

Anthem Singers - Perform the National Anthem at T-Birds games. Interested candidates should have prior experience singing in public and can be chorus groups, church choirs, individual performers or children's choirs.

Back-Up Mascot - Dress up and perform as a Thunderbirds mascot, during select games and community events. Candidates must audition and must be a minimum of 16 years of age with cell phone and transportation.

Back-Up PA Announcers - Responsible for providing upbeat on-microphone entertainment and in-game announcements. Prior experience and audition required.

Ball Kids - Children ages 8 to 14 assist the Team at games by assisting in serving the teams water and Gatorade during the games, drying the floor under the baskets as needed and helping retrieve stray basketalls along the sidelines. Ball kids sit courtside at every game and wear a Thunderbirds Ball Kids team t-shirt at the games.

Camera Operator - Team internship position to learn fixed camera operation under the supervision of Team's Futurecast TV crew. Movie camera experience preferred, but training is available for a motivated and responsible candidates, age 16 and above.

Gymnastics Dunk Team - Be a part of the Thunderbirds first ever dunk team and perform at games with the new Team mascot, Thundercat. Must have gymnastic ability and experience and be age 16 or older, with cell phone and transportation. Trampoline experience preferred and tryout required.

Game Ops Interns - Assist with game night festivities for T-Birds home games, including on-court promotions, selecting fans for in-game contests, and pre and post-game arena set-up.

On Court Guest Emcees - Responsible for motivating the crowd during games and running all on-court games, contests and promotions. Must be energetic, exciting and a crowd pleaser! Prior experience as a DJ or announcer or audition required. Local radio and TV personalities welcome.

Sound Engineers - Team internship position to learn and control the in-arena sound system and in-game musical entertainment. Must be able to run a 16 channel sound board. Experience preferred, but training is available for motivated and responsible candidates age 16 and above.

Ushers - Meet and greet fans to assist them in locating their seats while providing outstanding customer service to all game attendees.

The T-Birds regular season consists of 24 home games, from November 26ththrough April 2, 2011. Full and partial season positions are available. All game night volunteers will receive a free season ticket and a Team t-shirt for their services. Academic credit may be available, depending on school.
