Battle Creek Rumble Bees News Release
BATTLE CREEK, MI - The League-leading Carolina Thunderbirds connected on a pair of goals in each of the three periods to win their 10th consecutive game in defeating the winless Battle Creek Rumble Bees, 6-1, Saturday night at The Rink Battle Creek.
Jan Salak spearheaded the victors attack with two goals while the league's fourth leading scorer Petr Panacek engineered three points on a goal and two assists and Michael Bunn added a goal and an assist.
Center Adam Howey accounted for the Rumble Bees sole goal, averting a second consecutive shutout team when he fired his second goal of the season in the last minute of the third period at the 19:09 mark. Until that juncture of the contest, Carolina had registered 13-consecutive goals including their 7-0 shutout triumph one night earlier on Friday night.
As for Howey's goal, with the Rumble Bees presenting their first-ever Christmas Teddy Bear Toss Night, the eager Battle Creek fans celebrated by cascading a shower of a vast assortment of those furry creatures onto the ice. The stuffed animals were collected and will be donated to the needy children in our area.
Carolina outshot the Rumble Bees, 66-20, including a healthy 31-6 bulge in the third stanza.
The Rumble Bees next action will be next Friday and Saturday nights, December 13th and 14th when they collide with the Mentor Ice Breakers in a two-games' home-and-home series.
Mentor will be in battle Creek on Friday night with opening face-off set for 7:35 pm.
