Fort Worth Cats News Release

The McAllen Thunder defeated the Fort Worth Cats 7-1 on Tuesday night at LaGrave Field in Fort Worth, TX. The Thunder scored six runs on four hits in the top of the third inning. The Cats committed two of their five errors on the night in the third. McAllen capitalized on another two error inning in the top of the sixth which earned them their seventh run.

Thunder starter Kedrick Martin (1-0) went 7 1/3 innings and gave up two runs on nine hits to earn his first win on the season. Martin struck out six and threw only one walk to lead off the eighth inning.

Cats' hurler Trevor Harden (1-0) gave up seven runs on as many hits in five innings of work. Only three of Harden's runs were earned. Harden struck out five and walked two. Fort Worth reliever Blake Parry threw three shutout innings and only allowed four hits.

McAllen's leading hitter for the night was third baseman Nathan Tomaszewski who knocked in three runs on a double in the messy third inning. Tomaszewski has batted in six runs just in this Fort Worth series. Shortstop Michael Lewis had an impressive performance as well batting 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases.

Designated hitter Chad Gabriel, the Cats' new power-hitting guru, blasted his second homerun in the series in the fourth inning.

Fort Worth attempted to start a rally in the eighth inning when RJ Harris sacrificed to left field to score leadoff hitter Randall Thorpe who returned to the lineup tonight.

Third baseman Brandon Jones knocked in the Cats' third run with a single off McAllen reliever Chad Robinson. Robinson would not allow Fort Worth to threaten his team's lead, throwing through the eighth and ninth innings only allowing one run on his account on two hits. Robinson struck out two batters and walked two batters.

The Thunder picked up just their second win of the season and improve to 2-5 while the Cats' record falls to 4-3. Fort Worth will go out on Wednesday night for the final game with McAllen attempting to tie the series up. First pitch at LaGrave Field will be at 7:05 p.m.
