
Roadrunners Snap Three-Game Skid

EDINBURG, Texas--- The Edinburg Roadrunners snapped their three-game losing streak using a five-run fifth inning to defeat the McAllen Thunder 10-4 Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
Leading 1-0 after a solo-homerun by Rusty Jones in the bottom of the fourth, the Roadrunners (4-5) added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth. Tim Battle started the inning with a walk and then moved to second an error. After a walk to Pascual Del Real, Battle came in to score on a wild pitch. Vincent Blue then followed with a single that put runners on the corners for Carlos Hereaud who delivered an RBI single. Derek Perren then hit an RBI single to left center that scored Blue from second. Stantrel Smith then capped off the scoring with a two-run single that allowed Hereaud and Perren to score making it 6-0 Edinburg.
The Thunder (2-7) got on the board in the top of the seventh. After Matison Smith allowed two walks, Gianison Rosa hit an RBI single to center field allowing Mike Demperio to score. Terrence McClain then followed with an RBI single that allowed Antoin Gray to score. Rosa, who moved to third on McClain's single, came in to score on a wild pitch that cut the Roadrunners lead in half 6-3.
Edinburg answered with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. With the bases loaded, Vincent Blue came in to score on a wild pitch that moved Hereaud and Perren to second and third. Two outs later, Osiel Flores hit a two-run single that pushed the lead to 9-3.
Matison Smith (2-0) got the win after allowing two runs on two hits in six innings while walking three and striking out four.
An RBI single by Blue in the bottom of the eighth allowed Wilmer Pino to score that extended the Edinburg lead 10-3.
Paul Koss allowed a run in the top of the ninth but struck out Rosa to end the game giving the Roadrunners the 10-4 victory.
The Roadrunners and Thunder will play the second game of their four-game series Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Ryan Smith (1-0) is expected to face Brian Murphy (1-0) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
