Thunder Streak Snapped

MUSKEGON, Mich. - Muskegon scored four goals in the first period to snap the Bloomington PrairieThunder's six-game unbeaten streak with a 5-2 victory in International Hockey League action Sunday before 2,579 people at Walker Arena.

Despite the setback, the PrairieThunder remains in first place with 13 points and a 6-3-0-1 record. It's the best start after 10 games in the franchise's four-year history. Muskegon's record improved to 5-3-0-1 (11 points).

Matt Robertson scored the first Muskegon goal in the first period at the 16:08 mark with assists to Justin DaCosta and David Rohlfs. The Lumberjacks scored again at the 13:48 mark on Mark Cody's effort with assists to DaCosta and Rohlfs.

DaCosta scored his first goal with 4:10 remaining in the first period on assists to Tom Galvin and Brian Bicek. The Lumberjacks' final goal of the period came from John DiPace with 1:34 remaining on assists by Robin Bouchard and Rumun Ndur.

The PrairieThunder scored both its goals in an 18-second span in the second period. Ryan Finnerty had the first goal on a power play with 13:36 left on assists by Russ Smith and Jamie Carroll.

Robin Gomez netted the second goal with assists to Bill Bagron and Brett Holmberg. Jason Lawmaster tacked on the final Muskegon goal with an empty-net effort off assists by Bouchard and DiPace with 33 seconds remaining.

Andrew Martin took the loss in net for Bloomington, stopping 25 of 29 shots. Sebastien Centomo was the winning goalie with 25 stops on 27 attempts.

Bloomington returns to action Friday with a 7:05 p.m. contest against Dayton at U.S. Cellular Coliseum followed by a Saturday game at home at 7:05 p.m. against Quad City.
