
Icehawks Beat Gems On The Road

DAYTON, OH - Mike Kinnie scored his 8th goal of the season 4:05 into the third period on Sunday to break a 2-2 tie and lift the Port Huron Icehawks to a 3-2 road victory over the Dayton Gems. Cory Stillman had the only assist on the play. Port Huron goalie Adam Russo made 12 saves in the third period and 33 in the game to secure the win.
Jamie Lovell provided the other two goals for Port Huron, netting his first of the season at 8:38 of the first period from Nick Rolls and Kerry Bowman to give the Icehawks a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes. Shots favored Port Huron 14-4 in the opening period.
Lovell's second goal of the game came in the second period at 6:37 on a 5-on-3 power play advantage. Kinnie and Nick Lindberg had assists, extending Kinnie's scoring streak to six games (5-4-9). The goal came 68 seconds after Dayton's Matt Auffrey had tied the game. Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn scored an unassisted goal at 18:26 of the second to tie the game a 2-2 after 40 minutes. Shots were 19-9 for the Gems in period two.
The Icehawks improve to 6-2-0-0 on the International Hockey League season and currently sit alone at second place in the standings. The Icehawks return to action on Wednesday night against the Muskegon Lumberjacks at McMorran Arena at 7 p.m. Veterans and active military will receive a free ticket to the game.
