Bloomington PrairieThunder News Release
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Bloomington PrairieThunder, in conjunction with Deb's Mardi Gras Marchers 'Relay for Life' team, will sponsor 'Pink in the Rink' night Saturday at U.S. Cellular Coliseum when Quad City pays a visit for an International Hockey League game.
The Breast Cancer Awareness Night, which begins at 7:05 p.m., will see the PrairieThunder wear special pink jerseys and a limited number of players using pink hockey sticks during warm-ups or at certain times in the game. The sticks and jerseys will be auctioned off after the game to the highest bidder.
Members of Deb's Mardi Gras Marchers also are currently selling raffle tickets for a hockey basket containing various items such as a New Year's Eve jersey worn two years ago by the PrairieThunder, tickets to a future game, one-hour message at Bodies In Balance, dinner for four before a PrairieThunder game at the Corn Palace, one-night stay at The Chateau, and a one-hour visit by a PrairieThunder player to a child's classroom.
There also will be a separate raffle for a pink jersey. Raffle tickets will be available during the first two periods of Saturday's game. All the proceeds from the basket auctions will go to Deb's Mardi Gras Marchers relay for life team, along with a portion of the proceeds from the stick and jersey auction.
A portion of the proceeds from tickets purchased from Relay for Life team members also will be donated. To order those tickets, call 309-585-0507, ext. 304 and mention the word pink.
"We are pleased to team with Deb's Mardi Gras Marchers in this worthy cause," said PrairieThunder assistant general manager Bryan Bloodworth. "A number of PrairieThunder players and staff members have experienced the horrors of breast cancer through family members or friends.
"It would be great if we could fill the Coliseum for a night to enjoy professional hockey and help put cancer in the penalty box."
Saturday's game will be the second in as many nights for the PrairieThunder, which takes on Dayton in a 7:05 p.m. contest Friday. Tickets for all PrairieThunder home games are on sale at the U.S. Coliseum box office; on online at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling 800-745-3000.
