Mallards Come Up Short In Flint

Flint, Mich. (November 8, 2009) - The Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, Sunday were defeated 6-2 by the host Flint Generals as Jamie Schaafsma led the Generals attack with two goals and one assist.

The Generals first grabbed the lead when JSchaafsma charged in off the right wing to fire the puck home 7:59 into the game.

The Mallards would bounce back when Terry Harrison evened the score at one by burying Mike Zbriger's centering pass at 15:09 of the first period.

The Generals would quickly take back the momentum, first regaining the lead while on the power play at 16:30 on Bryan Smolinski's blue line blast and then extending advantage to 3-1 on Nick Pernula's tip-in at 18:31.

Flint would strike for another pair of quick goals in the second period when Tyler Howells' one timer from the right wing circle made it 4-1 at 17:09 and 1:23 later John Mori pounced on a loose puck in the left wing circle to extend the gap to four goals.

The Generals produced a fifth straight goal when Schaafsma walked in unchecked to score his second at 11:00 of the third period. Zbriger finished off the scoring with a drive from the slot at 16:16 of the third- Zbriger was assisted by Harrison and Patrick Levesque as each of those three finished the contest with two points.

The Mallards next play on home ice Sunday, November 15 at 4:00 p.m. against the Bloomington PrairieThunder. The first 1,000 fans through the doors for that game will receive a free Mallards official game puck courtesy of Major League Texting.
