Thunder Signs Rookie

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder signed rookie forward Mike Kneeland on Wednesday.

A native of Calgary, Alberta, Kneeland recently finished a four-year career at Lake Forest College, where he was a teammate of recently-signed Thunder goaltender Scott Campbell. Kneeland scored 96 points for the Foresters in 85 career games. At the end of last season, Kneeland appeared in three games for the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads, playing for former Thunder Head Coach Derek Laxdall. Kneeland earned NCHA All-Academic honors during his junior and senior seasons, while leading the Foresters in points during both of those years.

Kneeland gives the Thunder 21 players under contract for the 2009-10 season. Training camp begins on Monday, October 5th and is open to the public at the Wichita Ice Center.

The Thunder opens the 2009-10 season on Friday, October 16th when they host the Amarillo Gorillas at the Kansas Coliseum. Season tickets and packages are on sale now. The Thunder hosts two exhibition contests against the expansion Missouri Mavericks on October 9th and 10th at the Wichita Ice Center. All seats are just $10.00 general admission.
