Thunder Pull Out Win Over Akron 6-3

Akron, OH- Three late runs and solid relief pitching secured the Thunder lead, and Trenton came away with a 6-3 win over the Aeros on Thursday afternoon to split the four game series. With the win, Trenton improves to 12-15 on the season.

Trenton was able to score two runs on one hit off Akron LHP Scott Barnes in the fourth inning. The two runs reached base off two straight walks by Barnes. After John Drennen hit a two-out single, Wyatt Toregas doubled him in to make it a 2-1 Thunder lead at the end of four innings.

Akron would tie the game in the fifth inning and chase Thunder LHP Jeremy Bleich out of the game after Beau Mills' RBI single scored Matt McBride. Another run would cross in the bottom of the sixth inning for Akron, and they took a brief lead, 3-2.

Trenton answered back with three runs in the seventh inning off relievers Omar Aguilar and Steven Wright. An RBI single by David Adams would score Justin Snyder, and then Brandon Laird hit a two-run single off Wright to give the Thunder a 5-3 lead. A sacrifice fly by Luis Nunez in the eighth inning scored Edwar Gonzalez from third base, and made it 6-3 in favor of Trenton.

RHP Grant Duff pitched the ninth inning, and after walking the bases loaded with one out, settled down to close out the ball game.

RHP Cory Arbiso pitched two perfect innings in the seventh and eighth innings to bridge the gap to Duff.

The Thunder will head home to start a three game series with the Bowie Bay Sox starting on Friday night at 7:05 PM. RHP David Phelps will start for the Thunder. Bowie starts RHP Ryohei Tanaka.
