
Thunder Adds Two More Forwards

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder of the Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today they have re-signed forward Kris Wiebe and added rookie forward Stan Yanchishyn.
Wiebe, a native of Lloydminster, Alberta, returns to the Thunder for a third straight season. One of just three Thunder players to appear in all 64 games last season, Wiebe notched 19 goals, 38 points and 115 penalty minutes.
Wiebe joined the Thunder in 2005, after graduating from Niagara University with a Bachelor Degree in Sports Management. He scored 22 goals and 39 points his rookie season and received the 2006 Thunder Community Service Award.
In 116 games, Wiebe has picked up 41 goals, 77 points and 192 penalty minutes. He has been an impressive playoff performer as well, leading all Thunder players the past two seasons with seven goals in 11 postseason games.
Yanchishyn (pronounced yan-CHISH-in) joins the Thunder following an impressive five-year career with the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's (MJHL) Portage Terriers. Yanchishyn notched 20 goals, 58 points and 254 penalty minutes last season with Portage and was named Team MVP, as well as the recipient of the Fan Appreciation Award.
A native of Teulon, Manitoba, Yanchishyn helped guide Portage to the 2005 MJHL Championship and served as Portage team captain the last two seasons. Portage's all-time leader for games played, Yanchishyn notched 64 goals, 163 points and 1093 penalty minutes in 277 career games.

Wiebe and Yanchishyn join defenseman Tyler Hanchuck and forwards Bruce Richardson, Tyler Liebel and Travis Clayton as the first six signings of the 2007-08 season. The Thunder will begin their 16th CHL season on Friday, October 19th, with their home opener taking place the following night.
