RiverKings To Scoop Ice Cream For Ronald McDonald House

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Mississippi RiverKings are very familiar with ice, of course. Come this Saturday, it will be seen how good they are with ice cream as team representatives will be participating in the 13th Annual Big Scoop Ice Cream Festival. The event takes place this Saturday (July 28) at the Agricenter International in Memphis with all proceeds benefiting the Ronald McDonald House of Memphis.

RiverKings players Derek Landmesser and Louis Dumont will take part in the annual Big Scoop Celebrity Sundae Making Contest. The RiverKings have participated in this event the last four years and actually won the contest two years ago.

"This event is going to be blast and it is for a great cause," Landmesser said. "Louis and I are going to do our best to bring the sundae-making title back to the RiverKings, too."

The Big Scoop will include activities and fun for all ages with vendors sampling ice cream, frozen treats, snack foods, beverages and more. There will also be an area for children to have their picture taken with their favorite costumed characters, plus face painting, and a Children's Activity Land.

The event will also include a silent auction that will feature many great items including some from the RiverKings.

The Celebrity Sundae Making contest begins at 1pm on Saturday. The entire event runs from 11 am to 4 pm at the Agricenter. Admission is $6 with children three years old and younger admitted for free.

The Ronald McDonald House of Memphis is a home-away-from-home for 51 families that each has a child who is battling pediatric cancer or another catastrophic illness and is being treated at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Last year's Big Scoop raised more than $45,000 and attracted around 5,000 guests.
