Clearwater Threshers News Release

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Clearwater Threshers exploded for ten runs across the sixth and seventh innings on Thursday, on their way to sinking the Brevard County Manatees, 11-1 at Bright House Field.

Chace Numata led the way with a four-RBI night, finishing 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Yacksel Rios meanwhile shut down the Manatees for six innings in the start, limiting Brevard County (22-30) to just three hits while striking out five.

The six innings for Rios (6-3) matched his longest of the season, with his other six-inning outing also coming against the Manatees back on July 4th. Rios tossed 80 pitches in the win, 52 for strikes.

Clearwater (34-20) grabbed the advantage in the second off Cy Sneed (3-3), after Rhys Hoskins rocketed a triple off the top of the wall in right-center. He would score with two outs on Numata's infield single.

It remained 1-0 until the sixth. With two men on and one out, Numata sent a single toward center that plated both Hoskins and Aaron Brown to make it 3-0. Mitch Walding followed with a single, his second of the night.

With runners at the corners, Walding took off for second and was caught stealing, but Numata broke for the plate and scored as the throw went to second base.

Up 4-0, Clearwater broke it wide open in the seventh.

Hoskins drove a two-out RBI double to left off reliever Stephen Peterson, and Andrew Pullin reached on an error on the shortstop Angel Ortega, his second of the inning. That miscue opened the floodgates, as the next five batters all collected hits off Peterson.

Jesmuel Valentin capped the scoring by shooting a triple just over the head of centerfielder Omar Garcia, scoring two runs to make it 11-0. All told, Clearwater brought across seven runs - one earned - on seven hits and three errors in the inning.

Clearwater has won four straight, and will battle Brevard County for game two of the series on Friday at 6:30 p.m. David Whitehead (7-10) toes the rubber against Johnny Hellweg (1-5), and the call can be heard live on the Threshers Broadcast Network starting at 6:15 p.m.

Friday will also feature a Threshers Spirit Socks giveaway to the first 1,000 fans, presented by the Tampa Bay Times.
