Clearwater Threshers News Release
Palm Beach, FL -- For the second time in three games against the Palm Beach Cardinals, the Clearwater Threshers took a lead into the bottom of the ninth inning but fell 4-3 on Friday.
Clearwater (12-48) went into the top of the ninth down 2-1, but a couple of runs in the inning put the Threshers on top 3-2.
The Threshers turned to Lee Ridenhour to close out the game, however with two outs and the bases loaded, Ridenhour surrendered a two-run walkoff single to Jhohan Acevedo to give the Cardinals (30-31) their third win of the series.
Ridenhour (1-5) was charged with his second blown save of the season.
Ethan Stewart got the start for Clearwater and received a no-decision. The Threshers' lefty went seven strong innings allowing just two runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking only one.
Ramon Oviedo kept his ERA at 0.00 in nine appearances this season out of the bullpen with a scoreless eighth inning.
Mike Myers was dazzling on the mound for the Cardinals lasting seven innings and allowing an unearned run while striking out five without walking a batter. Myers received a no-decision as well.
Offensively, the Threshers were paced by KC Serna. Clearwater's third baseman finished the game 4-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI to bump his team leading batting average to .291.
Anthony Hewitt also had a strong night at the plate. The former first-round pick went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Friday's game.
The series concludes on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Colin Kleven (1-7) will take the hill for Clearwater while Nick Petree toes the rubber for Palm Beach.
