Threshers Stumble in Finale to Stone Crabs
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The Clearwater Threshers continued their struggles against the Charlotte Stone Crabs in Sunday's 8-0 loss at Charlotte Sports Park. The defeat handed the Threshers their second sweep on the road this season, and drops the Philadelphia Phillies affiliate out of playoff position heading into the final seven games of 2019.
Ethan Lindow (0-2) worked a perfect first, but gave up three doubles in the second to fall behind, 2-0. The southpaw ran into trouble in the fifth inning after setting down the first two batters of the frame, but a single to Wander Franco kept the inning alive.
The southpaw gave up another single to Ronaldo Hernandez, but got a grounder to third from Kaleo Johnson. Luke Miller's throw to first sailed into the dugout, allowing Franco to score to stretch the deficit to 3-0.
After a walk to Moises Gomez loaded the bases, Lindow gave up a bases-clearing triple to Joey Roach to put the game out of reach. Zac Law followed with an RBI double to cap off the five-run frame.
Charlotte (80-51, 45-20) added another run in the seventh against Clearwater's (64-68, 28-38) bullpen in the seventh with a solo home run from Gomez to make the score 8-0.
Omar Maldonado allowed a run in his Advanced-A debut, but contributed four of the 11 strikeouts for the Threshers' pitching staff on Sunday.
