Threshers Fall in Finale, 9-3

The Clearwater Threshers pounded out 11 hits on Thursday night, but fell in the series finale at Daytona, 9-3 at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

Clearwater (6-1) (38-37) suffered its first loss of the second half, but took the series after winning the first two games of the set.

Daytona (4-3) (40-33) jumped ahead in the first, plating three runs off starter Bailey Falter (5-3). A pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases, before Tyler Stephenson brought in the first run with a sacrifice fly. Bruce Yari's two-run single made it 3-0.

Clearwater got on the board in the second. Grenny Cumana, Raul Rivas, and Jose Gomez collected three consecutive singles pushed home the Threshers first run.

Brantley Bell extended the Tortuga lead back to three in the bottom half, homering to left-center.

The Threshers battled to keep it close, plating a run in the fifth when Cumana reached on a two-out error on Bell at third, scoring Adam Haseley to make it a 5-2 game. Clearwater's final run would cross in the sixth, when Brian Mims doubled, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Luke Williams' single to center.

Daytona pulled away with three runs (two earned) off reliever Felix Paulino between the seventh and eighth innings.

The Threshers return home on Friday to host the St. Lucie Mets, with first pitch at 6:15 p.m. Mauricio Llovera takes the hill against David Peterson, and the game will be broadcast live on threshersbaseball.com starting at 6 p.m.
