Threshers Equalize in Fifth, Fall in Series Finale

TAMPA, FL - The Clearwater Threshers (71-36, 27-15) had three different players with multiple hits but fell 11-5 in the series finale against the Tampa Tarpons (52-56, 21-21) on Sunday afternoon at Steinbrenner Field. The Threshers return home to face the Dunedin Blue Jays (Single-A, Toronto) on Tuesday night at BayCare Ballpark after a Monday off.

Emaarion Boyd led off the game by drawing a walk on Tarpons starter Ryan Harvey and instantly stole second base. He moved to third on a single by Felix Reyes and scored on an RBI knock from Zach Arnold to give the Threshers an early 1-0 lead. Tampa tied it at one on an RBI double in the first and took the lead on an RBI single in the second 2-1.

Tampa kept their streak going with two more runs in the third to triple their lead to 4-1. Felix Reyes started the fifth-inning rally for the Threshers with a one-out single off Tampa reliever Montana Semmel. Reyes advanced to second on a balk and scored when Zach Arnold reached on an error by Tarpons shortstop Roc Riggio. Bryson Ware tied the game at four with a two-run blast to left field.

The Tarpons responded with a five-run fifth to retake the lead at 9-4. Tarpons reliever Anderson Muñoz walked two of the first three batters and hit Boyd with a pitch to load the bases. Troy Schreffler, who led off the inning with a walk, scored from third on an unassisted double play to cut the deficit to 9-5. With two more runs allowed in the ninth, the Threshers finished the series with an 11-5 loss in Tampa.

Eiberson Castellano allowed four runs on five hits in 2.2 frames with three walks and two strikeouts in a no-decision. Braeden Fausnaught (2-3) allowed five runs on four hits with one walk and one strikeout and took the loss. Daniel Harper tossed 1.2 shutout frames with two hits and one walk allowed. Yoniel Ramirez did not allow a run or a hit in 1.0 scoreless inning with one walk and two strikeouts. Jonh Henriquez allowed two runs on three hits in 1.0 inning with one walk and two strikeouts.

Arnold had his second multi-hit game of the series...Ware drove in a career-high two runs with a two-run home run...Ramirez didn't allow a run in either appearance against Tampa...Reyes extended his hit streak to five games with his second multi-hit effort of the series...After Monday off, the Threshers begin a six-game series against the Dunedin Blue Jays on Tuesday, August 15...
